Jaguar . How to Change the Oil in a 2006 Accord V6Keeping fresh oil in the engine of your 2006 Honda Accord is essential to the overall performance of the vehicle. It is recommended you change the oil and oil filter at least every 3,000 miles or six months. Changing the oil is an easy task and requires no previous auto mechanic experience to complete. All you need is a few minutes and a few basic tools. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need 4 quarts of 5W-20 oil Wrench Oil filer wrench Oil drain pan Ramps or something to raise the car up safely (optional) Step by Step : 1 Start your Honda Accord. Allow the vehicle's engine to run for a few minutes so it can warm up. This heats the oil in the Accord, which makes it easier to drain from the car. Let the car run for three to five minutes. 2 Open the Accord's hood. Locate the oil filler cap on the engine block, and remove it. This also will help the oil to drain better from the engine. 3 Stick a drain pan under the oil pan of the vehicle. Use a wrench to take off the oil drain bolt. Allow all of the oil to drain from the vehicle into the drain pan. 4 Use the oil filter wrench to take off the oil filter. Let the remainder of the oil drain into the drain pan. 5 Apply a light coating of fresh oil to the new oil filter. Use the oil filter wrench to install the new filter. 6 Replace the oil drain bolt, and tighten it in place. Pour four quarts of 5W-20 oil into the engine through the place in the engine where you removed the oil filler cap. Shut the hood of the Accord.
Jaguar . How to Change Oil & Filter on a 1993 SaabChanging the oil in your 1993 Saab is the single most important project you can undertake to prolong the life of your car. Failing to change the oil every three months or 3,000 miles will ruin your Saab's engine, especially in a car as old as a 1993. Fortunately for owners, changing the oil is a simple do it yourself project. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Jack Jack stands Oil pan or other container Socket wrench set Clean rag 6 quarts of new oil New oil filter Step by Step : 1 Jack your Saab up and place jack stands underneath. 2 Locate the oil tank. It will be near the front of the car, on the bottom of the engine. 3 Place an oil pan or another container under the oil tank to catch the waste oil. 4 Unscrew the drain plug from the oil tank. A socket wrench is deal for this. Make sure that neither the plug nor its washer falls into the oil pan. 5 Remove the engine cover. It should have "SAAB Turbo" written on it and should be held in with three Torx screws. 6 Unscrew the bolts holding the oil filter cover in place with a socket wrench then remove the cover. 7 Unscrew the oil filter and remove it. This can usually be accomplished by hand. Make sure that the old oil filter's gasket is removed with the filter. 8 Wipe down the area with a rag. 9 Lubricate your new oil filter's gasket with new oil. Step by Step : 10 Screw the new oil filter into place. Step by Step : 11 Replace the oil plug in the oil tank. Step by Step : 12 Lower the Saab off of the jack stands. Step by Step : 13 Open the hood of your Saab and take the cap off of the top of the oil tank. Step by Step : 14 Insert a funnel and pour just under six quarts of oil into your Saab. Give it a few minutes to settle, then check the dipstick and top the oil off accordingly. Step by Step : 15 Replace the oil tank's cap. Tips & Warnings If your car has been run recently, allow the engine to cool before attempting an oil change. By attempting to change the oil while the engine is hot you run the risk of being burned. Before you allow cylinder walls to become thinner with wear, cre-anyone to undertake a "ring job," check the ating a gap between them that allows gases to compression to see whether your car really bypass the rings. This reduces compression in needs it (instructions appear in Chapter 13) and the cylinders and, as you see in the following be sure that the car's blue-book value war-section on the four-stroke power cycle, you rants such a costly investment. You may save don't get as big a bang for your buck, and your money in the long run by trading in the old "fuel car loses power. Piston rings can be replaced. hog" for a more efficient vehicle. The cylinders on vehicles with rear-wheel drive run from the front of the engine back toward the firewall at the rear of the engine compartment. On vehicles with front-wheel drive, the engine is usually combined with the transmission into a single unit called a transaxle. These engines are called transverse engines because they're set sideways between the wheels of the car and their cylinders run from side to side (see Figure 6-13). "Straight" (or "in-line") engines have a single row of cylinders, V-type engines have two parallel rows of cylinders. On rotary engines (found on some Mazdas) the cylinders radiate outward from the center like spokes on a wheel. Each cylinder has a number, determined by the particular engine's cylinder sequence. You can find descriptions and illustrations of the cylinder sequence for a variety of engines in Chapter 13. Inside each cylinder is a metal piston, which fits snugly against the walls of the cylinder so that nothing can get past it. On the outside of the piston are piston rings that ensure a snug fit. The cylinder also has other openings besides the ones for the spark plug and the piston. These are for the intake valves and the exhaust valves. At the bottom of the engine is the crankcase, which houses the crankshaft and the oil pan. Water circulates throughout the engine to keep it cool, and oil circulates to keep the parts moving freely. Now that you've met the "players," you're ready to get on to the main event they're designed to participate in: the fiery meeting of air, fuel, and fire known as the four-stroke power cycle. Each movement of the piston is called a stroke. Four strokes — down, up, down, up — complete the cycle that creates the power to drive the engine. This process is aptly called the four-stroke power cycle. The four-stroke power cycle varies slightly, depending on whether your vehicle's engine is a conventional internal combustion engine, a stratified charge engine, or a diesel engine. I cover the first two here-and the diesel power cycle in Chapter 7. In a conventional internal combustion engine Here's what happens on each stroke of the piston in a conventional internal combustion engine: 1. Intake stroke: (See Figure 6-14.) When the piston moves down, it creates a vacuum in the top portion of the cylinder (where the piston was at the end of its last upstroke). Air can't get in from the bottom of the cylinder because the rings on the piston seal it off. Then the intake valves, conveniently located at the entrance of the intake manifold to the cylinder, open up and let the fuel/air mixture into the cylinder. This mixture rushes in to fill the vacuum left by the piston. Part II: What Makes It Go?. Jaguar . Why does a Car smoke when moves off in first gear?
